Monsoon Skincare Guide

After a few months of suffering through a lockdown and scorching heat, monsoons are finally here. It's great to see the rains after a hot summer, but what it even more important is taking care of your skin. No matter what season taking care of your skin should always be a priority. Monsoons are no exception to this rule and so in today's blog post, I will be sharing a few tips on how to take care of your skin during this season.

Cleanse Your Face

This one is a no brainer but when it comes to cleansing your face in monsoon, use a mild cleanser to get the dirt and the dead skin off from your skin. The high humidity during the monsoons causes sweating on your face along with dirt and dust getting build up on your skin. Also, make sure to use a mild exfoliant once a week to get rid of the dirt on your face. You can also try a DIY paste using Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth), Gram Flour, and some rose water. Apply the paste evenly on your face and leave it on to dry and rinse with some lukewarm water.

Moisturise

Moisturising is a very important part of the skincare regime be it any season. Monsoon can make dry skin dehydrated and oily skin excessive hydrated. For dry skin use a non-water based/oil-based moisturizer to make your is hydrated and doesn't get too dry as it might lead to itchiness on your skin. For Oily skin, a water-based moisturizer will work just fine, but make sure to tone your skin well in both cases.

Don’t Skip Sunscreen

Be it Summer, Winter, or Rainy season, never skip your sunscreen. Sunscreen is a very important part of the skincare regime and should not be avoided. Sunrays even though they are not seen during monsoons do affect your skin and overtime exposure to the sun might lead to tanning or sunburns. Use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 and choose something which is waterproof and long-lasting so you don’t need to reapply it.

Keep Your Feet Clean

After getting your feet wet in the rains or after you are back at home, make sure to wash your feet nicely to have clean and fungus-free feet. Dip your feet in lukewarm water for 10 minutes with either bath salt or antiseptic liquid mixed and then wash your feet nicely with an antibacterial soap. Towel dry your feet and apply some moisturizer avoiding the area between the toes as it might increase the dampness. Please don’t forget to wash your footwear and air dry them before using them next time.

Pedicure at home

Once a week scrub your feet with a good body scrub to remove the dead skin cells of your feet. You can also use a pumice stone. Scrubbing your feet will remove all the dirt from your feet and chuck out the damaged skin. If you don’t have a body scrub you can soak your feet in some lukewarm water mixed with shampoo or lemon juice. Trim your nails, clean the underneath, and file them properly. Don't forget to moisturize your feet after scrubbing to keep them soft and supple. Use an antifungal dusting powder in between your toes before heading out to prevent any fungal infection.
